Hope for Peace: Israeli Claims of April 9th Ending US-Iran War as Tehran Considers Washington’s Proposals
The United States has reportedly set April 9 as a target date for concluding the ongoing conflict with Iran, according to Israeli media. This announcement follows President Donald Trump’s recent decision to refrain from military strikes against Iran’s energy infrastructure. The daily Yedioth Ahronoth, one of Israel’s leading newspapers, cited an anonymous government official who revealed that Washington is allowing approximately three weeks for further combat and diplomatic negotiations.
Discussions between U.S. and Iranian officials are anticipated later this week in Pakistan. However, the report noted that Israel was not fully briefed on the specifics of U.S.-Iran communications involving Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Qalibaf. Qalibaf has publicly dismissed claims of negotiations with the U.S., branding Trump’s assertions as “fake news” intended to influence financial markets. Despite this denial, Yedioth Ahronoth speculated that indirect talks may already be underway.
In a separate development, CBS News reported that Iran has indeed received messages from the U.S. through intermediaries, which could serve as a precursor to further dialogue. An Iranian Foreign Ministry official acknowledged, “We received points from the U.S. through mediators and they are being reviewed.” This statement highlights the complexity of communications between the two nations.
Trump’s announcement on Monday emphasized the “productive” discussions that have taken place recently, which led him to retract an ultimatum that pressured Iran to either open the Strait of Hormuz or brace for military action. On social media platform Truth Social, he declared, “I AM PLEASED TO REPORT THAT THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, AND THE COUNTRY OF IRAN, HAVE HAD, OVER THE LAST TWO DAYS, VERY GOOD AND PRODUCTIVE CONVERSATIONS REGARDING A COMPLETE AND TOTAL RESOLUTION OF OUR HOSTILITIES IN THE MIDDLE EAST.” He added that, based on the tone of these discussions, U.S. strikes against Iran would be paused for five days.
Later, Trump indicated that around 15 points of agreement had emerged between Washington and Tehran, expressing optimism about the potential for a successful deal. The conflict between the U.S. and Israel on one side and Iran on the other escalated after joint strikes were carried out against Tehran on February 28. This retaliation quickly spiraled into broader conflict, resulting in over 3,220 casualties in Iran, including 1,398 civilians and 210 children, according to U.S.-based rights organization HRANA. On the U.S. side, losses include 13 personnel, while Israel reported 15 civilian deaths and the loss of two soldiers.
As diplomatic efforts continue, the world watches closely to see if these latest developments will effectively halt hostilities and bring about a sustainable resolution to tensions in the Middle East.
