Fatal Ambulance Crash on NH-15 in Sonitpur: Six Dead, Two Injured
Sonitpur, March 23 — Six people traveling in an ambulance were killed on the spot and two others were injured after the vehicle collided with a truck on Sunday around 6:30 pm in the Dhekiajuli-Rabartola area under Dhekiajuli police station in Sonitpur district. The crash occurred on National Highway 15 near Rabartola (Alichinga), close to Dhekiajuli town.
The victims have been identified as driver Vijay Hansa and passengers Hari Madgi, Kunal Karmakar, Sanjita Nath, Bishwajit Nath and Sandhyachari Nath. Two critically injured people were rescued and rushed to hospital, officials said.
Sonitpur Senior Superintendent of Police Barun Purkayasta said the ambulance was carrying a patient and family members to Tezpur Medical College and Hospital when it was struck by the truck. “Six people died on the spot, and the two critically injured have been shifted to the hospital,” he confirmed.
Local residents and Tulip Tea Estate sources said the ambulance was operated by the estate and was en route to TMCH with six people, including a seriously ill patient. “All were coming from Tulip Tea Estate when the accident occurred, and all six died on the spot,” said Shahid Manbar Nath.
Police reached the scene after receiving information and recovered the bodies from the mangled vehicle. The collision caused heavy traffic congestion on NH-15, leaving many vehicles stranded for hours. With inputs from PTI.
