Abbas Araghchi: Larijani’s Killing Will Ignite Iran’s Resolve for a Decisive Response!

The assassination of Ali Larijani, the head of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council, by Israel has raised questions about the stability of Iran’s leadership. However, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi asserts that this event will not significantly undermine the country’s political structure. In a recent interview with Al Jazeera, Araghchi emphasized that the Iranian government operates independently of any single individual, suggesting that both the U.S. and Israel fail to grasp this fundamental aspect of the Islamic Republic.

Araghchi stated, “I do not know why the Americans and the Israelis still have not understood this point: The Islamic Republic of Iran has a strong political structure with established political, economic, and social institutions.” His comments came shortly after Iran confirmed Larijani’s death, which occurred during an Israeli airstrike. The attack reportedly took place while Larijani was visiting his daughter in the Pardis district, on the eastern outskirts of Tehran. Along with him, his son, Morteza, was also among the casualties.

Highlighting the resilience of Iran’s political fabric, Araghchi remarked, “The presence or absence of a single individual does not affect this structure.” He acknowledged that while individuals may have varying degrees of influence within the government, the broader system remains robust.

Following the assassination, Iran vowed to retaliate decisively. Reports indicate that Iranian forces launched a series of missiles targeting Israel, with reports of fatalities near Tel Aviv. The strikes also aimed at Gulf nations, which intercepted several missiles and drones directed at U.S. military bases in the region.

Funeral services for Larijani are scheduled for Wednesday, alongside commemorations for Gholamreza Soleimani, the head of the Basij paramilitary force, who was also killed in the Israeli assault. Larijani’s death marks a significant moment, as he is the highest-ranking figure of the Islamic Republic to be killed since military actions were directed at Iran, which escalated significantly after the assassination of Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei on February 28.

Iranian Army Chief Amir Hatami stated, “Iran’s response to the assassination of the secretary of the Supreme National Security Council will be decisive and regrettable.” The situation has stirred international tensions, with the U.S. also ramping up its military actions. Central Command reported that the United States has dropped multiple high-explosive bombs on key Iranian missile sites, which it claims posed a threat to international shipping.

The unfolding events raise numerous implications for regional stability and highlight the complex interplay between the U.S., Israel, and Iran. As tensions escalate, the international community watches closely, amid fears of a broader conflict in the Middle East.

This incident emphasizes the precarious balance of power in the region and raises critical questions about the future of Iran’s governance and its relations with global powers.
