Tripura Finance Minister Pranajit Singha Roy on Monday presented a Rs 34,212.31 crore budget for the 2026–27 fiscal year in Agartala, a 5.52% increase over the previous year, while projecting a fiscal deficit of Rs 240.72 crore. The package signals continued expansion in public spending and retains a small overall shortfall against estimated receipts.
The state estimated total receipts at Rs 33,971.59 crore against total expenditure of Rs 34,212.31 crore. On the revenue account, receipts were pegged at Rs 26,881.99 crore and revenue expenditure at Rs 25,266.39 crore, producing a revenue surplus of Rs 1,615.60 crore — meaning recurring income exceeds recurring spending for the year, according to Singha Roy.
To bridge the gap between total receipts and outlays, the government expects to raise Rs 7,089.60 crore from loans and other sources, including public account transactions and opening balances. Capital expenditure is projected at Rs 8,945.92 crore, producing a capital deficit of Rs 1,856.32 crore, which the state plans to finance through the stated borrowings and other resources.
Singha Roy highlighted a sharp rise in public spending over eight years of BJP rule, noting that the current budget of over Rs 34,000 crore compares with about Rs 15,000 crore in 2018 — a growth he described as a sign of progress. The additional allocation is aimed at strengthening infrastructure, expanding social-welfare programmes, promoting digital governance and improving public service delivery across Tripura.
Chief Minister Manik Saha later announced a 5% increase in dearness allowance and dearness relief for 1.2 lakh state government employees and more than 8,000 pensioners. The rise reduces the gap in DA and DR between central and state employees to 17%, a move the government said would provide relief to the state’s workforce and retirees while modestly increasing recurring expenditure.
