Nagaland Hands Over Dimapur Sports Complex to SAI — Major Boost
Nagaland Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio told the state assembly on Thursday that the government is exploring handing over the Multi-Disciplinary Sports Complex in Dimapur to the Sports Authority of India (SAI) to complete remaining construction and ensure the facility is properly used. The announcement came during the fifth day of the eighth session of the 14th Nagaland Legislative Assembly in response to a starred question from MLA Nuklutoshi.
Rio said the project has been delayed mainly due to limited funds and the phased release of allotments over the years. He told the House the state has received about Rs 140 crore so far, while the total estimated cost to finish the complex is roughly Rs 267 crore, inclusive of GST and other related expenses.
According to the chief minister, a second survey of the site has been completed and the only outstanding formal step is signing a memorandum of understanding (MoU) between the state government and SAI. The agreement will be executed by the state sports department with SAI’s regional directorate, Rio added.
The stadium has been planned to seat about 30,000 spectators and will require at least three entry points to manage access and crowds during events. Rio said that once handed over, SAI would not only help finish construction but also work to ensure full utilisation of the complex, including deploying qualified coaches and establishing national-standard training centres for various sports.
After the day’s proceedings, Speaker Sharingain Longkumer adjourned the House until March 25 and announced that the second phase of the eighth assembly session will resume on March 26.
