Rejaul Karim Sarkar Gratefully Thanks Badruddin Ajmal for AIUDF Ticket
Rejaul Karim Sarkar, the newly nominated All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF) candidate from the 17 No. Srijangram Assembly constituency, launched his campaign on Tuesday, March 10, from Lengtisinga in Bongaigaon district, thanking party leaders and sharply targeting the Congress over recent political developments.
Speaking to reporters after receiving the nomination, Sarkar said he is indebted to AIUDF president Badruddin Ajmal for the opportunity to “continue working for the minority community” following what he described as a “humiliating exit” from the Indian National Congress. He recalled that the AIUDF leadership stood by him during a difficult phase in his political career and said Ajmal’s decision to field him in Srijangram reflects the party’s confidence in his ability to represent local aspirations, particularly those of minority groups.
Sarkar raised concerns about what he called the “harassment” of minority communities during eviction drives carried out by the state government, and pledged that, if elected, he would vigorously raise these issues and work to protect the rights and dignity of affected residents. He positioned himself as an accessible representative, asking constituents to accept him not just as a politician but as “their own son,” and promising to remain available to address their problems.
In a pointed rebuke of his former party, Sarkar accused the Congress of knowing “who acts as an ‘agent of the BJP,’” an apparent reference to ongoing political tensions and mutual accusations among opposition parties in the state. His remarks underline the polarised atmosphere ahead of the campaign in Srijangram, where minority outreach and responses to state eviction policies are likely to be central issues.
Sarkar’s launch from Lengtisinga marks the formal start of his bid to reclaim a political foothold in the constituency under the AIUDF banner, with the candidate emphasizing community protection, party support, and personal accessibility as core themes of his campaign.
