"Exciting Milestone: Noida Airport Set to Complete Crucial Calibration and Validation Flights by December"
Noida International Airport, the second airport for the national capital, is anticipated to finalize its calibration and validation flights for aircraft arrival and departure procedures by December 2023, according to CEO Christoph Schnellmann. Following the successful completion of these flights, the airport aims to apply for an aerodrome license within the same month.
Initially projected to commence operations by December 2024, the airport’s opening has been postponed to April 2025 due to construction delays caused by supply chain disruptions. Calibration flights are crucial for verifying and adjusting navigation aids, runway lighting, and airspace parameters, ensuring safety and precision before commercial flights begin. Validation flights rigorously test aircraft, crew, and procedures to comply with safety and regulatory standards prior to official operations.
Kiran Jain, Chief Operating Officer of Noida International Airport, noted that the runway has been constructed, with the next phase involving the installation of runway lights. Landscaping efforts are also underway, covering approximately 1,50,000 square meters around the runway area.
In its initial development phase, Noida International Airport will feature a single runway and a passenger terminal designed to handle 12 million passengers annually. Additionally, a multi-modal cargo terminal is expected to be completed by December. This facility will have an initial capacity of 200,000 tonnes per year, with plans to eventually expand to handle 2 million tonnes annually.
