"Meghalaya CM Conrad Sangma Guarantees Fairness: No Nepotism or Favoritism in MPSC Exams"
Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma on Thursday, August 29, addressed allegations of nepotism and favoritism in the Meghalaya Public Service Commission (MPSC) exams, which were raised by Opposition Voice of the People’s Party (VPP) leader Ardent Basaiawmoit in the Assembly. Sangma firmly denied any irregularities, stating, “There is no nepotism or favouritism in the MPSC or in the results of the preliminary examination.”
Sangma underscored the state government’s commitment to transparent recruitment processes, mentioning reforms and standard operating procedures implemented to boost efficiency in the MPSC and other selection committees. He refuted allegations of mark tampering and dismissed claims that the MPSC secretary’s daughter was a candidate in the exams.
In response to concerns raised by an applicant about errors in answer keys, the Chief Minister detailed that the MPSC re-evaluated all candidates’ answer sheets to ensure fairness. This re-evaluation resulted in 62 additional candidates, including the complainant, qualifying for the next stage.
Sangma clarified that speculations in media reports were unfounded, assuring that the MPSC official’s daughter was not on the preliminary or final lists of qualified candidates. He noted that SOPs allow MPSC staff’s children to participate in exams, provided strict procedures are followed. He added that the MPSC secretary’s daughter had last year successfully cleared an LDA exam, ranking 77th out of 116 candidates.
Highlighting the state’s commitment to fair recruitment, Sangma pointed to ongoing hiring processes across various departments, including police, home guards, education, and medical sectors, as evidence of transparent practices.
In summary, Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma dismissed claims of nepotism and favoritism in the MPSC exams, emphasizing transparency and adherence to fair procedures in Meghalaya’s recruitment processes.
