Death of Dhing Gang Rape Accused Under Investigation
Nagaon: The Nagaon district administration in Assam has initiated a probe into the death of a suspect in the Dhing gang rape case. The inquiry, led by Additional SP Pallab Tamuli, aims to uncover the circumstances that led to the suspect’s demise.
Authorities report that the incident took place on August 24 while police were escorting the accused to the crime scene for a reenactment. The suspect allegedly tried to flee and jumped into a roadside pond, resulting in his drowning. His body was subsequently retrieved by the Assam State Disaster Response Force.
The deceased was one of three men accused of gang-raping a 14-year-old girl on August 22. The brutal assault occurred as the girl was returning home from her tuition class on a bicycle in Dhing. The attackers reportedly approached her on a motorcycle, surrounded her, and carried out the assault.
As of now, one of the three suspects has been apprehended, while two remain at large. The case has ignited widespread outrage across Assam, prompting calls for enhanced protection for women and stringent penalties for those involved in such appalling crimes.
The launch of this investigation underscores the authorities’ commitment to ensuring justice in a crime that has shaken the community. The public continues to demand thorough accountability and severe repercussions for the perpetrators.
