Major Milestone: New Namrup Police Station Foundation Laid (MOITRI)
The foundation stone for a new Namrup Police Station building in Assam’s Dibrugarh district was laid by Naharkatia MLA Taranga Gogoi in the presence of Dibrugarh Superintendent of Police Abhijit Gurav Dilip. The project, funded under the Assam government’s Mission for Overall Improvement of Thana for Responsive Image (MOITRI) scheme, is estimated to cost Rs 2.56 crore and aims to upgrade local policing infrastructure.
The MOITRI scheme seeks to modernise police stations across the state to improve public service delivery and promote a more citizen-friendly policing system. Officials said the programme focuses on better facilities, accessibility and transparent public interfaces to rebuild community trust.
Addressing those present, MLA Taranga Gogoi emphasised the state government’s commitment to modernising police stations and strengthening law-and-order infrastructure. She said the new building would offer improved facilities for police personnel and the public, creating a more efficient, transparent and responsive work environment.
SSP Abhijit Gurav Dilip said upgraded infrastructure would boost operational efficiency and help the police serve residents more effectively. He described MOITRI as reflecting the government’s vision to strengthen trust between the police and the community through improved facilities and access.
The upcoming Namrup facility is expected to include modern amenities, reorganised workspaces and dedicated public interface areas. Officials said completion of the building should enhance policing capabilities in Namrup and neighbouring parts of Dibrugarh district.
Local residents and officials who attended the ceremony welcomed the initiative, expressing hope that the new infrastructure will improve public safety and make grievance redressal quicker and more effective.
