The Sikkim BJP has appealed to the State Information Commission under Section 19(3) of the Right to Information Act, 2005, seeking full disclosure of records related to the 2025 Sub‑Inspector (SI) recruitment conducted by the Sikkim Public Service Commission (SPSC). The party says the move follows an RTI it filed on November 28, 2025, and a series of unsatisfactory responses that it alleges amount to obstruction and secrecy.
In a press statement, state BJP spokesperson Sangay Gyatso Bhutia accused the SPSC of cloaking the 2025 SI selection process in “a veil of secrecy and suspicion.” According to the party, the State Public Information Officer (SPIO) furnished an evasive reply on December 16, 2025, and when the BJP filed a First Appeal on January 13, 2026, the First Appellate Authority (FAA) failed to respond within the statutory 30‑day period. “The FAA has not only violated the RTI Act but has signalled to the public that they are above the law,” Bhutia said.
Bhutia told reporters the commission’s refusal to release recruitment data amounts to a confession of wrongdoing. “If the recruitment was fair, why is the commission terrified of transparency?” he asked, adding that withholding records is tantamount to “stealing the future of our youth.” He accused the SPSC of operating “like a private club rather than a public guardian” and warned that the BJP would not allow police appointments to be decided by nepotism or influence.
The Sikkim BJP has petitioned the State Chief Information Commissioner to direct the SPIO to provide all unedited and certified recruitment records and has sought maximum penalties under Section 20(1) of the RTI Act for what it calls wilful obstruction of justice. The party urged the State Information Commission to take “speedy and exemplary” action to restore public trust and ensure merit‑based recruitment.
