Priyanka Gandhi to Visit Assam Tomorrow: Critical Talks with Congress
Congress general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra will arrive in Guwahati on Thursday, February 19, 2026, to lead the party’s preparations for the upcoming Assam Assembly elections, a senior Congress leader said on Wednesday, February 18. Soon after landing, she is scheduled to offer prayers at the Kamakhya Temple on Nilachal Hill before proceeding to Rajiv Bhawan, the Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) headquarters.
At Rajiv Bhawan, Priyanka will hold a series of meetings with APCC office-bearers, leaders of frontal organisations, heads of party departments and senior functionaries. The sessions are set to begin at 11 a.m. on Thursday and are expected to run through the night until around midnight.
The leadership team will focus on organisational restructuring, strengthening booth-level committees and reviewing the party’s preparedness for the 2026 Assam Assembly polls, the senior leader said. Priyanka is also expected to assess the broader political situation in the state in light of recent developments and internal challenges within the Congress.
She will meet district leaders to gather feedback on grassroots issues, a move the party says is intended to boost morale and signal unity amid reports of growing churn in Assam’s opposition space and instances of senior leaders leaving the Congress. Party sources added discussions may address countering the ruling BJP’s narrative, outreach to youth and minority communities, and tighter coordination between the state unit and the central leadership.
This visit is Priyanka Gandhi’s first to Assam in several months; Congress officials believe her presence will energise the cadre and offer strategic direction at a critical juncture. Further details of the visit, including any public interactions, will be released by the party later.
