Man Sentenced to Life for Raping His Minor Stepdaughter: Justice Served
A special POCSO (Protection of Children from Sexual Offences) court in Agartala on Thursday convicted a 52-year-old man of raping his 11-year-old stepdaughter and sentenced him to life imprisonment, Special Public Prosecutor Jayanta Chowdhury said. The prosecutor added that the convict will spend the remainder of his life in jail.
Chowdhury said the victim’s mother had married the accused as her second husband; the girl was from the mother’s earlier marriage. According to the prosecutor, the assault occurred on the night of April 15, 2024, when the mother was away from the bedroom. The mother returned to find her daughter on the floor, bleeding profusely.
Neighbours were alerted and rushed the child to hospital, Chowdhury said. The victim’s mother lodged an FIR at Mandai police station on April 16, 2024, and the police later filed a charge sheet. After a prolonged trial, the special court pronounced the guilty verdict on Thursday.
The court sentenced the accused to life imprisonment and imposed a fine of Rs 5,000; Chowdhury noted that failure to pay the fine will result in an additional period of rigorous imprisonment. He also said that, because the victim’s mother lacked financial security, the girl has been moved to a childcare home where she is doing well and has resumed her studies.
