This was articulated during the second India-Arab Foreign Ministers’ Meeting, where the two sides condemned cross-border terrorism and urged global cooperation to dismantle terrorist networks, halt terror financing, and ensure swift justice for terrorist acts.
The meeting, hosted in India, included representatives from 19 influential Arab League member countries. A declaration released at the conclusion highlighted an agreement to boost joint efforts against terrorism in all its forms, explicitly denouncing a recent terror attack in Pahalgam that targeted innocent Indians. The Arab League reaffirmed its unwavering support for India in its fight against terrorism.
Discussions covered a variety of urgent regional and global issues, such as the Palestinian question, the importance of multilateralism, state sovereignty, counterterrorism measures, and potential reforms to the UN Security Council. Both sides praised the outcomes of last year’s Sharm El-Sheikh Peace Summit, which resulted in a ceasefire agreement in Gaza. They commended the significant roles played by Arab states, particularly Egypt and Qatar, as well as the United States in fostering peace.
The meeting underscored the critical need for consistent humanitarian access throughout the Gaza Strip, ensuring the continued operation of relief agencies and international organizations. This commitment comes amidst recent comments from India and the Arab League, coinciding with US President Donald Trump’s introduction of his “Board of Peace” aimed at resolving conflicts, including those in Gaza.
India and the Arab League also committed to expanding cooperation in sectors such as energy, digital technology, health, and education. They denounced Houthi attacks on maritime navigation, emphasizing that safeguarding essential maritime routes like the Bab al-Mandab Strait is a shared international responsibility critical to global stability.
In their joint declaration, both parties reiterated their determination to act as positive forces for peace and sustainable development, bolstering South-South cooperation and condemning any actions that may disrupt stability across the Gulf of Aden, Arabian Sea, and Indian Ocean.
