Devastating Bird Flu Outbreak: Thousands of Cherished Chickens Culled in Odisha
Bird Flu Outbreak in Odisha: Thousands of Chickens Culled in Pipili
Odisha witnesses a significant bird flu outbreak in Pipili, Puri district, prompting authorities to cull thousands of chickens. The state government has embarked on culling around 20,000 poultry birds, following established protocols of burial and sanitization of affected farms.
The confirmation of the H5N1 avian influenza strain came from the National Institute of High Security Animal Diseases, Bhopal, after testing samples collected from the Pipili region. This has led the Odisha government to issue strict directives to district administrations, urging preventive measures. These include routine surveillance through the collection of tracheal, cloacal, environmental, and serum samples by field veterinarians.
In an attempt to curb the spread of the disease, the public has been advised against consuming chicken for the next few days. The state remains on high alert to manage this outbreak effectively and safeguard public health.
