In a remarkable demonstration of professionalism and quick thinking, a healthy baby boy was delivered inside a 108 emergency ambulance while en route from Seppa to Itanagar on the night of January 29. The pregnant woman was referred from District Hospital Seppa to TRIHMS due to a lack of labor progression. At around 8 pm, she was transported in a 108 ambulance operated by EMRI Green Health Services. However, by approximately 11 pm, she began experiencing severe labor pains, making delivery unavoidable before reaching the hospital.
Emergency Medical Technician Yalik Kamchi, along with ambulance pilot Ashok Bagang, promptly took control of the situation. Displaying composure, skill, and effective coordination under pressure, they successfully facilitated the safe delivery of the baby around 11 pm. Immediate care was provided to the newborn, including an Apgar score assessment, alongside post-delivery care for the mother.
Following the successful delivery, both mother and infant were transported safely to TRIHMS, where doctors confirmed their stable and healthy condition. The timely and adept handling of the emergency received high praise from both the family of the newborn and the hospital staff.
This incident underscores the vital role of 108 emergency ambulance services in the remote and challenging landscapes of Arunachal Pradesh. The free 108 emergency ambulance service, launched on June 21, 2021, by Chief Minister Pema Khandu, has already assisted over 35,000 beneficiaries across the state since its inception.
