Nagaland Deputy Chief Minister T.R. Zeliang announced on January 28 that the state government is dedicated to empowering youth for global careers through policy changes and international collaboration. Speaking at the Nagaland–Japan Connect 2026, a key initiative held at the Integrated Business Hub and Innovation Centre (IBHIC) in Dimapur, Zeliang emphasized that the program is more than just an event; it symbolizes the growing partnership between Nagaland and Japan and reflects a mutual vision for the future. He described the initiative as a form of people-to-people diplomacy, expressing that cooperation extends beyond formal agreements, leading to real opportunities in education, employment, and cultural exchange.
Zeliang further highlighted the significance of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) established with Japan’s Kochi Prefecture. This agreement represents a crucial move towards formalizing government-to-government collaborations, particularly in human resource exchange, skill development, and agricultural cooperation. Kunitoshi Hojo, Deputy Director General of the Department of Commerce and Labour from Kochi Prefecture, pointed out that the region is currently facing a shortage of human resources in various sectors due to an aging population. To combat this issue, Kochi has initiated a program aimed at attracting workers from around the globe to help develop its future workforce.
Hojo expressed optimism that more young individuals from Nagaland would seize opportunities in Kochi Prefecture. Currently, 19 youth from Nagaland are employed there, with additional placements anticipated later this year. He noted that this initiative would not only broaden development prospects but also enhance human resource exchanges, benefiting both the youth and Nagaland as a whole. Meanwhile, Dr. Pangersenla Walling, Head of the Department of Linguistics at Nagaland University, underscored the importance of the Centre of Excellence for Foreign Languages, which aims to promote the Japanese language to improve employability and skill development among students.
