Coimbatore District Police Intensify Crackdown on Drug Peddlers
Coimbatore District Superintendent of Police K. Karthikeyan oversaw an operation targeting drug-related crimes, leading to the arrest of six individuals and the seizure of several weapons on Sunday.
The operation, which took place in and around Sulur, resulted in the arrests of N. Naveenkumar (21) from Ramanathapuram district, P. Prakash (22) from Thoothukudi district, and N. Deepak (21) from Theni district, all of whom were found in possession of ganja. Another police team apprehended Praveenkumar (21) from Theni, I. Ranjith (19) from Coimbatore, and M. Haritharani (19) from Thoothukudi, who were caught with both ganja and weapons.
In total, the police confiscated six kg of ganja alongside three machetes, one dagger, and two sharp-edged knuckle punches from the suspects, who were booked in two separate cases by Sulur police.
The crackdown, commanded by Superintendent K. Karthikeyan, involved over 250 police officers conducting surprise checks in areas such as Chettipalayam, Sulur, and Neelambur. Several individuals exhibiting suspicious behavior were also questioned during the operation.
Mr. Karthikeyan highlighted that this initiative aimed to curb drug peddling and rowdyism in rural areas. He stressed that stern measures would be taken against students involved in drug activities as well as those linked to known offenders.
Additionally, during the operation, police seized 42 motorcycles due to improper ownership documentation.
This extensive effort underscores the district police’s commitment to maintaining law and order and ensuring community safety by targeting narcotics and associated criminal activities.
