Outrage Over Wrongful Demolition: Nagarjuna Blasts Bulldozer Attack on Telangana Convention Centre, High Court Intervenes
The Hyderabad Disaster Response and Assets Monitoring and Protection (HYDRAA) authority commenced the demolition of actor Akkineni Nagarjuna’s N-Convention Centre in the Madhapur area of Ranga Reddy district, Telangana, on Saturday. This action is part of an ongoing initiative to remove illegal constructions encroaching on water bodies and public lands across the state. The convention center, sprawling over 10 acres, was found to be in violation of multiple land use and environmental regulations, including encroaching on 1.12 acres of the Tummidikunta lake’s Full Tank Level (FTL) and an additional 2 acres within its buffer zone.
The demolition began early Saturday with HYDRA officials on-site, supported by a police contingent to ensure the operation proceeded without disruptions. However, this was halted after Nagarjuna approached the Telangana High Court, which issued a stay on the demolition, pending further inquiry by Justice T. Vinod Kumar.
In response, Nagarjuna issued statements vehemently opposing the demolition, which he termed ‘unlawful.’ He argued that the property is on Patta land and not encroaching any tank land, contrary to the allegations. He expressed his dismay on social media, particularly on platform X, where he clarified, “Pained by the unlawful manner of demolition carried out in respect of N Convention, contrary to existing stay orders and Court cases.”
The actor claimed no prior notice was issued for the demolition and asserted that if authorities had ruled against him legally, he would comply with tearing down the structure himself. Nagarjuna also mentioned that his legal team would pursue appropriate remedies from the Court to counter the authorities’ actions.
This development follows recent demolition activities around Gandipet Lake, targeting illegal constructions within its FTL and buffer zones. The N-Convention management has been criticized previously for allegedly leveraging their influence to skirt regulatory crackdowns by the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) and other higher bodies.
