Tragic Delhi BMW Crash: Victim Could Have Been Saved with Timely Care, Charge Sheet Reveals Heartbreaking Truth

Navjot Singh, a 52-year-old Deputy Secretary in the Department of Economic Affairs at the Ministry of Finance, tragically lost his life after being struck by a speeding BMW in September 2025. The Delhi Police’s recent charge sheet reveals that Singh was alive for at least 15 minutes post-collision, leading investigators to conclude that timely medical intervention could have saved him.

The crash occurred around 1:30 p.m. on September 14 near the Delhi Cantonment Metro Station. Allegedly driven at speeds between 100-110 km/h-twice the 50 km/h limit-Gaganpreet Makkad’s BMW X5 lost control, crashed into a metro pillar, overturned, and collided with Singh’s motorcycle. The police report details the horrifying impact, stating it was severe enough to be evident even with the BMW’s robust design.

The charge sheet, filed before Judicial Magistrate Ankit Garg, claims that Makkad intentionally delayed critical medical assistance. Instead of transporting Singh and other injured individuals to the nearest hospitals, such as the Delhi Cantonment Hospital or AIIMS Trauma Centre-both within a 10-15 minute drive-Makkad chose to take them to Nulife Hospital in GTB Nagar, approximately 20 kilometers away. This omission reportedly extended their journey to 23 minutes, far exceeding the “golden hour” essential for trauma care.

Police previously indicated that an ambulance, staffed with a driver and paramedic, arrived shortly after the collision. However, they allege Makkad declined their help. The charge sheet asserts, “No fault has been found on the part of the ambulance staff, as the accused deliberately refused assistance and delayed access to medical care.”

Further complicating matters, the charge sheet suggests that Makkad may have familial ties to Nulife Hospital. Notices sent to the facility confirmed this connection, while evidence indicating potential manipulation of medical records is still being collected. Additionally, Makkad allegedly misrepresented her injuries, admitting herself to the ICU to mislead investigators about her condition.

As the investigation continues, the focus remains not only on the immediate actions following the tragic accident but also on whether medical documents may have been altered to obscure the timeline of care. The Delhi Police’s findings highlight critical lapses in judgment that may have contributed to Singh’s untimely death, igniting a serious conversation surrounding duty of care in emergency situations.

This disturbing incident serves as a reminder of the vital importance of prompt medical assistance in life-threatening situations. As legal proceedings unfold, the community remains vigilant, seeking justice for Singh and accountability from all parties involved.
