The incident began when a man, identified as Jon Haloi, approached the girl offering chocolates but then attempted to exploit her. Local police, informed of the troubling situation, swiftly intervened and rescued the teenager. Haloi managed to flee but was later arrested, along with an accomplice, during a subsequent operation in different locations in Tinsukia.
Jon Haloi has been charged under Section 75(2)Bns R/W Section 8 of the POCSO Act at Tinsukia Sadar police station. He remains in police custody as investigations proceed.

In a separate case, Tafazul Islam, the main accused in the Dhing gang rape case, was declared dead following an intense two-hour rescue operation. Islam attempted to escape police custody at around 4 am by jumping into a pond during a crime scene investigation. A swift search effort by the police led to the recovery of Islam’s body, confirming his death by drowning. He had been arrested on August 23, identified as the third participant in the heinous crime after an extensive probe.
These incidents underscore the dire need for vigilance and swift action to protect minors from sexual violence.
