Major Russian Missile Strikes on Kyiv Ahead of Trump-Zelensky Meeting
On December 27, just a day before a scheduled meeting between newly elected American President Donald Trump and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky in Florida, Russia launched a severe missile and drone attack on Ukraine’s capital, Kyiv. This assault triggered air raid alerts throughout the entire country.
Sources indicate that Russia employed deadly weapons such as Kinzhal hypersonic missiles, Iskander ballistic missiles, and Kalibr cruise missiles during this operation. Kyiv’s Mayor Vitali Klitschko urged residents to seek shelter. In addition, the attack on the northeastern city of Brovary resulted in power outages across the capital. Meanwhile, the Russian Defense Ministry described the strike as retaliation for Ukraine’s assaults and claimed to have taken control of a settlement in Zaporizhzhia.
As the war enters its fourth year, this assault carries significant implications. According to Zelensky, a 20-point peace plan prepared by the U.S. and Ukraine is now “90 percent ready.” This plan proposes a ceasefire in frontline battle areas and the establishment of a buffer zone. Notably, Trump has made it clear that his approval will be mandatory for any agreement. The meeting in Florida on Thursday is anticipated to play a crucial role in determining the future of the conflict.
