Empower Your Future: Master Entrance Exams and Life Skills in Kiusam Town
St. John Church in Kiusam Town held a Career Guidance program on December 27, 2025, themed “Charting Your Path to Success.” The event featured notable speakers, including K. Sudanvito Justin, the Women Resource Development Officer for Nagaland; Rev. Fr. Thomas Toretkiu, Associate Priest of Kiusam Town; and Bro. Henry from Orien’s Theological College in Shillong.
During the program, Rev. Fr. Toretkiu encouraged the youth to identify and pursue their aspirations. He urged students in grades 6 to 8 to cultivate their skills and interests, while those in grades 9 and 10 should focus on making informed decisions. For students in grades 11 and 12, he emphasized the importance of preparing for competitive entrance exams like JEE, NEET, CLAT, and IITs through systematic study, including mock tests and effective time management. He also outlined the academic streams available — science, commerce, and arts — and inspired them by sharing the success story of Sundar Pichai, the Indian-born CEO of Alphabet and Google, highlighting the value of hard work.
K. Sudanvito Justin expanded on the theme of self-belief, stating, “Believe in yourself even when no one else does.” He quoted Robert Frost’s poem “The Road Not Taken,” pointing out that life is a journey where young people often find themselves at a crossroads. He encouraged them to face challenges head-on and to have faith in their abilities. Highlighting Thomas Edison’s famous perseverance, he reminded them that failure can serve as a stepping stone to success, recalling Edison’s numerous attempts before inventing the light bulb.
Bro. Henry echoed this sentiment by quoting Winston Churchill: “Success is not final, failure is not fatal.” He urged the youth to embrace a learning mindset, to not fear mistakes, and to learn from them rather than repeat them.
The event included engaging activities like fun learning sessions, treasure hunts, and group activities, making it both educational and enjoyable. Asang Mary concluded the day by expressing gratitude to the resource persons and participants for their involvement, with the event culminating in a communal meal, fostering a sense of community among attendees.
