Delhi HC Urges Centre: Bridge the Heartfelt Communication Gap Between Celina Jaitly and Her Detained Brother in UAE
The Delhi High Court has directed the central government to facilitate communication between actress Celina Jaitly and her brother, Major Vikrant Kumar Jaitly (retd), who has been detained in the UAE for over a year. The court’s ruling came on December 4, 2025, following a plea filed by Jaitly seeking effective legal representation for her brother.
In her application, Jaitly claimed that Major Vikrant has resided in the UAE since 2016 and was “illegally abducted and detained” on September 6 of last year. Despite the significant time elapsed, she alleged that the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) has not provided any fundamental information regarding her brother’s welfare or legal status.
Justice Sachin Datta, presiding over the case, instructed the MEA to inform Major Vikrant during the next consular access of his sister’s desire to communicate with him. The court emphasized the importance of ensuring that Ms. Jaitly can maintain contact with her brother. According to a status report submitted by the MEA, a nodal officer has been appointed to coordinate this communication, but the court has requested an updated report as the case proceeds.
The MEA informed the court that efforts are underway to enable Celina Jaitly to reach out to her brother, confirming that Major Vikrant was granted consular access. Last month, the court had already issued directives to facilitate communication not only between Ms. Jaitly and her brother but also to ensure contact with his wife.
The court had underscored the importance of transparency in the legal proceedings by mandating that the nodal officer regularly update both Celina and other family members regarding Major Vikrant’s status.
As the situation develops, all eyes are on the upcoming court proceedings set for December 23, where further actions regarding the communication and legal representation for Major Vikrant Kumar Jaitly will be discussed.
