Tragic Wild Boar Hunt: Local Firearm Accident Claims Life
A villager from Upper Bering in Pakyong district accidentally shot and killed a fellow villager while trying to hunt a wild boar with a locally made firearm. The tragic incident occurred on November 29, resulting in the death of the victim, who was estimated to be between 25 and 27 years old.
Harka Bahadur Rai, 31, the accused, reported the incident to the Pakyong police station after it happened. According to police reports, both men had gone to Richu Khola, located below Dongrong village, in search of wild boars, with Harka carrying a self-made firearm known locally as a Khadwa gun.
During the hunt, a bullet accidentally discharged from Harka’s gun, striking the victim. Following his report, a police team visited the scene to investigate. They discovered the victim’s body with a gunshot wound on the right side of his chest, and the locally crafted gun was found nearby.
Harka has since been arrested, and a case has been registered under various sections of the BNS, as well as the Arms Act of 1959, at the Pakyong police station.
