Discovering Artistic Brilliance: Raphael Warjri Shines at Art Camp
Artist and filmmaker Raphael Warjri showcased two compelling artworks during the Akshaya Kalayatra–2 festival in Guwahati, which took place at the Don Bosco Institute of Management from November 25 to 29. His creations resonated with the vastness of the Brahmaputra River and reflected on the recent cultural impact of renowned musician Zubeen Garg. Rather than idolizing individual fame, Warjri’s work prompted reflection on collective societal memory intertwined with the natural landscape.
His second piece addressed the erosion of Guwahati’s once-vibrant environment, now overshadowed by rampant urbanization and haphazard construction that disrupts the city’s aesthetic balance. Organized by Hina Bhatt Art Ventures (HBAV), the event highlighted the artistic diversity of Eastern India, uniting artists from Bihar, West Bengal, Odisha, and various Northeastern states under a collaborative creative vision. Notable contributors included senior artist Amitabha Sengupta from West Bengal and Raphael Warjri, whose pieces received considerable attention.
Curated by Hina Bhatt, the exhibition featured a rich array of styles and media shaped by the artists’ personal experiences and cultural backgrounds. More than just an art showcase, Akshaya Kalayatra–2: Poorab aimed to elevate regional voices to a national level, providing artists with enhanced visibility and opportunities to connect with broader audiences and institutions. The exhibition was attended by prominent figures, including Prof. Hari Prasad Agarwal, a leading academic in architecture and design, alongside various dignitaries from Assam’s corporate and institutional sectors.
