Honoring Dr. Meghna Chowdhury and Arup Shandilya: A Tribute to Excellence
The Munin Barkotoky Memorial Trust has officially announced the recipients of the Munin Barkotoky Writing Fellowship for 2025. The prestigious fellowship has been awarded to two distinguished individuals: Dr. Meghna Choudhury, an Assistant Professor in the Folklore Studies Department at Gauhati University, and senior journalist Arup Shandilya. This fellowship aims to encourage the authors to undertake in-depth research on important subjects related to the society, culture, and heritage of Assam.
Dr. Meghna Choudhury has been selected for her proposed book, “Elephants of Assam: Culture, Ecology, and Collective Memory.” In contrast, Arup Shandilya, a senior staff reporter for the daily newspaper ‘Dainik Asom,’ has received the honor for his work titled “Agricultural Culture and Traditions of Assam.” Each selected author will receive a financial grant of ₹1,20,000, which will be disbursed in four installments over 18 months. This funding is expected to support their research and writing efforts.
Meenakshi Barkotoky, the chief trustee of the Munin Barkotoky Memorial Trust, shared this information through a press release.
