Empowering Justice: 110 Men Counseled in Rachakonda She Team’s Bold Fight Against Sexual Harassment
In a bid to enhance women’s safety, Rachakonda Police have intensified their efforts, counseling 110 men over the past two weeks as part of their renewed initiative. During this same timeframe, the police received 135 complaints related to harassment, with specific details provided by DCP T. Usharani. Complaints included 34 cases of phone harassment, 48 via social media, and 53 involving direct incidents.
Counseling sessions were facilitated at the LB Nagar Women Safety Office, encompassing 74 adults and 36 minors. Commissioner G. Sudheer Babu emphasized a zero-tolerance approach toward anyone harassing women, encouraging victims to report incidents to law enforcement without hesitation.
The She Teams, operating in plain clothes, have been proactive in monitoring high-traffic areas such as bus stands, railway and metro stations, schools, and markets. Their decoy operations aim to identify individuals who engage in chasing or harassing women. Captured offenders are brought before the courts with substantial evidence, and counseling sessions are conducted with the presence of their parents to promote accountability and awareness.
Recent notable actions include the apprehension of an Uber auto driver accused of assaulting passengers, the arrest of an individual harassing a woman online, and the detention of another person making repeated calls from various numbers. In a swift response to reported rioting at Thukkuguda Park, the Maheshwaram She Team apprehended involved youths and registered a corresponding case.
In addition to incident response, the She Teams have been active in educational outreach, conducting 49 awareness programs from the 1st to the 15th of this month. These sessions reached approximately 7,500 individuals, focusing on women’s rights, legal protections, and safety protocols. Further, undercover checks on metro trains revealed eight men located in the women’s compartments, prompting fines from metro officials to reinforce compliance with safety regulations.
Women facing harassment are urged to act decisively by contacting the She Teams through the Rachakonda WhatsApp number 8712662111. This initiative, led by DCP T. Usha Rani, along with ACP Palle Venkateswarlu and inspectors M. Muni and G. Anjaiah, underscores a comprehensive commitment to safety and empowerment for women in the region.
The Rachakonda Police’s concerted efforts, combining enforcement with community education, aim to create a safer environment for all women, sending a strong message that harassment will not be tolerated.
