Samsung has introduced the "Irregular Heart Rhythm Notification" (IHRN) feature on its Samsung Health Monitor app for selected Galaxy Watches, announced on August 21. This addition leverages the existing blood pressure and electrocardiogram (ECG) monitoring capabilities to identify heart rhythms indicative of atrial fibrillation (AFib), providing a broader perspective on users’ cardiovascular health.
Activated through the Samsung Health Monitor app, the IHRN feature uses the Galaxy Watch’s BioActive Sensor to continuously monitor heart rhythms in the background. Should a series of consecutive irregular readings be detected, the watch warns the user of potential AFib, advising them to perform an ECG for a precise analysis. This new function complements the current blood pressure and heart rate tracking, giving users deeper insights into their heart conditions.
The IHRN feature is now accessible on Wear OS-based Galaxy Watches, including the latest Galaxy Watch 7 Ultra and Galaxy Watch 7, as well as the Galaxy Watch 6, Watch 5, and Watch 4 models. To activate IHRN, users need to update the Samsung Health Monitor app via the Galaxy Store and enable the feature within the app’s settings.
Samsung emphasized that with the IHRN addition, Galaxy Watch users now have a robust toolkit for heart health management. The BioActive Sensor allows for functionalities like on-demand ECG recording and an HR Alert for detecting abnormal heart rates.
