Transforming Futures: Oil India’s 47 Toilets for Girls in Meghalaya’s Ri-Bhoi
Oil India Limited (OIL) has announced its commitment to enhancing hygiene and sanitation in educational institutions by constructing 47 toilet facilities specifically for girl students in Meghalaya’s Ri-Bhoi district. This initiative was formalized through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed on Friday between OIL representatives and the district’s Deputy Commissioner, Abhilash Baranwal.
The project, which carries an estimated cost of around Rs 72 lakh, will be funded through OIL’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) program. Baranwal explained that this initiative arose following a visit earlier this year by Union Petroleum and Natural Gas Minister Hardeep Singh Puri, when concerns were expressed regarding inadequate toilet facilities for girl students in many local schools.
The construction work will be jointly monitored by OIL and the district administration to ensure adherence to quality standards and to facilitate timely completion by December. This partnership aims not only to optimize the utilization of CSR funds but also to ensure that the facilities will remain sustainable in the long term.
