India Rejects Pakistan Claims, Demands Swift Action on Karachi Attack
New Delhi, June 28 — India on Sunday rejected Pakistan’s allegations linking it to a deadly attack on a Pakistan Rangers (Sindh) facility in Karachi, calling the claims “baseless” and urging Islamabad to take credible action against terror infrastructure on its soil. Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal told reporters: “We have seen Pakistani reports making baseless allegations against India regarding the recent incident in Karachi. We categorically reject them. Instead of pointing fingers at others, Pakistan would do better to look inwards, take credible action against the terror infrastructure on its territory and rid itself of its proclivity to rely on terrorism as an instrument of state policy.”
The MEA statement followed an Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) claim that the assault on the Rangers camp in Karachi’s Gulistan-i-Jauhar on Saturday was carried out by terrorists of Jamaatul Ahrar, which the ISPR described as Indian-backed. At least three Sindh Rangers personnel were killed in the attack, authorities said.
Local reports and television footage described intense firing near Meteorological Chowrangi on University Road after a loud blast, though Inspector General Sindh Javed Alam Odho said there was no definitive confirmation that an explosion had occurred. Odho added that attackers had rammed the main gate with a vehicle and that three militants were killed in the operation to secure the Rangers headquarters.
India’s rebuttal echoes earlier sharp criticisms of Pakistan. In March, the MEA characterised Pakistan as a “state sponsor of terrorism for decades” and questioned its credibility on cross-border terrorism. Speaking at a weekly briefing, Jaiswal said it has “become second nature for Pakistan to blame India for its misdeeds” and reiterated: “We reject such baseless allegations… Pakistan has zero credibility when it comes to cross-border terrorism.”
The exchange comes amid a wider regional security backdrop. The MEA reaction referenced ongoing tensions after Afghan forces launched retaliatory operations against Pakistani military installations on February 27, following alleged Pakistani actions inside Afghan territory on February 21. Pakistan subsequently launched “Operation Ghazab lil-Haq” (Righteous Fury), saying it was responding to what it described as unprovoked firing by Afghan forces across multiple border sectors.
The latest claims and counterclaims are likely to deepen diplomatic tensions between New Delhi and Islamabad and add pressure on Pakistan to demonstrate action against militant networks operating from its territory.
