Over 1 Lakh Diyas Illuminate NIT Silchar in Tribute to Zubeen Garg and Heroes
As the rest of India celebrated the festival of lights, the city of Silchar in Assam’s Barak Valley showcased a stunning and heartfelt Diwali celebration this year. The National Institute of Technology (NIT) Silchar made history by lighting 111,111 earthen lamps, serving as a glowing tribute to the late music legend Zubeen Garg and a poignant remembrance of the martyrs of Operation Sindoor.
The institute’s expansive football ground transformed into a breathtaking sea of light as students, faculty, and staff carefully arranged the diyas to create a giant image of Lord Ram. This symbolized the victory of light over darkness and emphasized the theme of unity amidst diversity.
The event, a collaboration between NIT authorities, students, and staff, attracted a diverse audience, bringing together individuals from various backgrounds, transcending religion, caste, and creed in a shared spirit of harmony and patriotism.
Discussing the significance of the event, NIT Silchar Director, Prof. Dilip Kumar Vaidya, stated, “Every year, NIT celebrates Diwali in a different way to convey a special message. This year, the festival holds deeper meaning; on one hand, we remember Zubeen da, whose music continues to inspire millions; on the other, we pay homage to the brave soldiers who sacrificed their lives in Operation Sindoor. The image of Lord Ram formed with diyas stands as a message of unity, reminding us that only by standing together can we truly serve our nation and society.”
