Assam Congress Poised for 2026 Comeback: Overcoming BTC Challenges
The Indian National Congress is optimistic about regaining power in Assam in 2026, despite a recent setback in the Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC) elections, according to party leaders on Saturday. After a meeting at the Kokrajhar District Congress Office, Abbas Hafiz, the Coordinator of the Lower Assam Regional Congress and Media Coordinator for the AICC, emphasized that various elections have distinct purposes.
“Local body elections, state assembly polls, and Lok Sabha elections are fundamentally different in nature,” he remarked. Hafiz attributed the growing support for the Congress party to the Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) failure to fulfill its employment promises, pointing out that many unemployed youths across the nation feel disillusioned due to a lack of opportunities. This rising discontent, he noted, is steering more people toward the Congress party.
Critiquing the BJP’s performance in the BTC elections, Hafiz stated that the ruling party’s inadequate showing, despite being in power, presents significant challenges for its future in Assam. He expressed confidence, declaring, “The Congress will form the government in Assam in 2026.”
