Unity in Motion: Army and Civilians Embark on Sacred Athupopu Trek
A 20-day joint civil-military expedition to Athupopu is set to commence on October 12, starting from the Anini Military Garrison located in Dibang Valley, Arunachal Pradesh. This initiative aims to enhance civil-military relations and shed light on the strategic and cultural significance of India’s remote border regions.
Athupopu, situated at an elevation of 3,500 meters near the Indo-China border, holds sacred importance for the Idu Mishmi tribe, who view it as a gateway for departed souls. The trek will not only showcase the area’s spiritual and cultural heritage but also promote community engagement among participants.
During the expedition, Indian Army personnel will march alongside local civilians, exemplifying the principle of “Soldiers as Citizens in Uniform.” This collaboration is intended to build trust and strengthen relationships between the armed forces and the communities they serve.
Organizers have characterized this effort as a vital step in nation-building, reinforcing connections in these forward areas. The expedition highlights the collaborative spirit essential for fostering peace and understanding in regions often overlooked.
