Manipur Chief Minister Thanks PM Modi for Recognizing Manipuri Language with Rs 18 Crore Funding
Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh expressed his gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi on August 19 for acknowledging the importance of the Manipuri language and its script by providing an initial funding installment of Rs 18 crore for their conservation and promotion. Singh also extended his thanks to Rajya Sabha MP Maharaja Sanajaoba Leishemba for his persistent efforts to elevate Manipuri to classical language status.
Chief Minister Singh highlighted the state government’s commitment to not only promote Meiteilon (Manipuri) but also protect tribal dialects through various courses, activities, and programs.
Rajya Sabha MP Maharaja Sanajaoba Leishemba took to the social media platform X (formerly Twitter) to announce, "Modi Govt allocates Rs.18 Crores as 1st Installment to promote our language Manipuri & script, recognizing the use of this language & script for more than 2,000 yrs in our Royal Chronicles. Positively, we are approaching very near to achieving our language as Classical Language Status."
The central government’s release of the Rs 18 crore funding marks the first installment aimed at promoting the Manipuri language and its ancient script, which hold significant historical value as evident in the over 2,000-year-old royal chronicles of Manipur.
