Lucknow Prepares for Exciting National Jamboree with 30,000 Scouts
With less than two months to go, Uttar Pradesh is gearing up to host the 19th National Jamboree of Bharat Scouts and Guides. Construction began on Monday for a massive Tent City at the Defence Expo Ground in Lucknow, which will be the event’s venue. This unique Tent City will feature 3,500 tents, 1,600 toilets, a 25,000-capacity arena, 64 kitchens, a 100-bed hospital, 15 dispensaries, 100 exhibition stalls, a Jamboree Market with 100 shops, a Global Village, an Adventure Zone, a Wi-Fi Zone, and a 24/7 control room.
The Tent City is expected to accommodate 30,000 scouts and guides from across India, along with 2,000 international participants and 3,000 officials. Prime Minister Narendra Modi is slated to inaugurate the event on November 24, while President Droupadi Murmu will be the chief guest during the closing ceremony on November 28.
This marks the first time in 61 years that Uttar Pradesh will host the Jamboree; the last National Jamboree in the state took place in 1964 in Prayagraj, then known as Allahabad. During the groundbreaking ceremony on Monday, Finance and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Suresh Kumar Khanna laid the foundation stone. The logo and mascot for the 19th National Jamboree were also unveiled at this event.
The weeklong Jamboree will feature various attractions, including the Air Force’s Air Agniveer exhibition, a HAM radio station, and an IT hub. Participants will have the chance to engage in adventure activities such as high ropes courses, ziplines, and trekking, while honing essential scouting skills like first aid, knot tying, and survival techniques, officials noted.
Cultural activities at the Jamboree will include folk dances, drama, and music as part of the “Global Village.” Additionally, exhibitions on robotics and science will be conducted to expose the youth to innovation and technology. Activities aimed at social service, environmental protection, and teamwork will also take place, inspiring participants to grow into disciplined and responsible citizens. All arrangements will adhere to principles of a green and circular economy, ensuring safety, sanitation, health, transportation, and environmental balance.
