Telangana Deputy CM Advocates for SCCL’s Global Diversification Beyond Coal Mining
At a review meeting held at the Secretariat on Saturday, August 17, 2024, Telangana Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka emphasized the necessity for Singareni Collieries Company Limited (SCCL) to seek global expansion opportunities and diversify beyond traditional coal mining. He advocated for the company to explore the mining of both metals and non-metals, particularly focusing on lithium extraction.
Deputy CM Vikramarka highlighted the evolving energy landscape, remarking that conventional fuels like petrol, diesel, and coal are becoming outdated. He stressed the importance of sustainable energy sources, especially in the development of power batteries that require minerals like lithium. "Singareni is an invaluable asset to the people of Telangana. Strengthening its position through diversification will generate wealth, additional assets, and create employment opportunities," he stated.
The Deputy CM also suggested that SCCL appoint a consultancy to devise a comprehensive diversification strategy into metals and non-metals mining. During the meeting, Singareni officials updated the Deputy CM on preparations for establishing Floating Solar and Pumped Storage Power Plants, sharing that a Detailed Project Report (DPR) is in progress and will soon be submitted to the government.
Additionally, Deputy CM Vikramarka inquired about the progress of the Naini Coal Block in Odisha and its coal production timeline. Notable attendees included Energy Secretary Sundeep Kumar Sultania, Special Secretary to the Deputy CM Krishna Bhaskar, and SCCL CMD Balram Naik, along with other officials.
In essence, the Deputy CM’s push for SCCL to diversify and embrace sustainable energy solutions reflects a forward-thinking approach to ensuring the company’s growth and the creation of livelihood opportunities in Telangana.
