Six Militant Arrests in Imphal Valley: A Major Blow to Banned Outfits
Security forces arrested six militants affiliated with various banned outfits in three districts of the Imphal Valley in Manipur on September 18, according to police reports. Among those apprehended were three active members of the Kangleipak Communist Party (PWG), captured from their homes in Imphal West district. The suspects are Leishangthem Tondon Singh (34), Leishangthem Anand Singh (34), and Heikham Hemchandra Singh (41). During the arrests, law enforcement recovered significant weaponry, including two SLR rifles, two modified .303 rifles, one INSAS rifle, nine magazines, and 99 cartridges.
In a related incident, another member of the PWG, Taorem Tomchou Meitei, also known as Pena (45), was arrested in Andro, Imphal East district. Separately, authorities detained an active cadre from the banned PREPAK (PRO) outfit in Ichan Khunou, Thoubal district. Additionally, Khoinaijam Bhumeshwor Singh (24), another active member from the SOREPA outfit, was apprehended in Samaram Mayai Leikai, Thoubal district, where a dummy gun and three cartridges were also seized. These operations highlight ongoing efforts by security forces to tackle militancy in the region.
