A tragic landslide occurred on Saturday evening in Sardung Lama Gaon, located in the Maneybong-Dentam constituency of Gyalshing district, claiming the life of 47-year-old Rajen Gurung, the Panchayat President of Sardong Lunzick Gram Panchayat Unit.
The disaster struck around 7 p.m. as Gurung was reportedly trapped under debris near his home and sadly succumbed to his injuries at the scene.
Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang expressed profound sorrow over this untimely loss, praising Gurung as a dedicated leader whose contributions to his community would not be forgotten. “I am deeply saddened to learn about the untimely demise of Shri Rajen Gurung… His selfless service and tireless contributions will be remembered with deep gratitude,” Tamang stated, adding that the government and the people of Sikkim stand in solidarity with Gurung’s grieving family.
The Chief Minister assured that the district administration and relevant authorities have acted promptly in responding to the incident and are providing necessary support to the affected family and community.
