Outrage in Assam: Teacher Charged with Forcing Student to Watch Porn Sparks Furious School Fire

A head teacher at a government school in Assam’s Karimganj district is facing serious allegations of misconduct after reportedly forcing a girl student to watch pornography in the classroom. The incident, which occurred on August 12 at Sonakhira Ishwar Chandra Vidyasagar School in the Patharkandi constituency, has led to a police case under several sections of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act, according to Karimganj Superintendent of Police Partha Pratim Das.

The girl’s family initially remained unaware of the incident until she confided in her mother about the teacher’s inappropriate actions, which included him forcing her to watch explicit material and touching her inappropriately.

Following the revelation, the local community’s outrage led to attempts to physically attack the teacher, who managed to evade the assault. Escalating tensions resulted in the vandalism and arson of the school, culminating in significant damage to the government property. “Since the locals have caused damage to government property, we’ll register a case against them too,” SP Das added.

Investigations are currently underway. The authorities are working to address both the criminal actions of the teacher and the resultant violence from the aggrieved local community.

A concerned local encapsulated the community’s sentiment, stating, “We send our kids to school so that they get education and become better human beings, but what they’ll learn from a teacher like this.”

The incident has sparked a significant dialogue on the safety and ethical responsibilities within educational institutions in the area.
