India to Host Exciting Coast Guard Global Summit in Chennai 2027!
India will host the fifth edition of the Coast Guard Global Summit (CGGS) in 2027, a noteworthy event for international maritime collaboration, as announced by the Indian Coast Guard on Saturday. This decision was made unanimously by CGGS members at the fourth summit, which took place in Rome, Italy, and was attended by Director General Paramesh Sivamani, who led the Indian delegation alongside representatives from 115 countries and various international organizations.
During the handover ceremony of the CGGS Presidency, Director General Sivamani emphasized the summit’s role as a vital platform for Coast Guard cooperation in addressing shared maritime challenges. He stated that the upcoming summit will be held in Chennai, Tamil Nadu, coinciding with the Golden Jubilee celebrations of the Indian Coast Guard. The event is scheduled for three days and will feature an International Coast Guard Fleet Review and a World Coast Guard Seminar, providing delegates with a chance to showcase maritime unity and engage in discussions on emerging challenges.
Sivamani highlighted that no single nation can tackle the vast array of maritime issues alone, underscoring the importance of the fifth CGGS as an inclusive forum aimed at fostering interoperability, trust, and enhanced global cooperation. A press release from the Indian Coast Guard outlined these key points.
At the fourth CGGS summit, discussions between the Director General of the Indian Coast Guard and the Commandant of the Italian Coast Guard focused on enhancing bilateral maritime cooperation. These talks aligned with the provisions of the Defence Cooperation outlined in the India–Italy Joint Strategic Action Plan for 2025–2029, reaffirming both countries’ dedication to strengthen collaboration in critical areas, such as Maritime Search and Rescue (M-SAR), marine pollution response, environmental protection, and the prevention of transnational maritime crimes. The two parties also agreed to improve information sharing, maritime domain awareness, and joint operations in capacity building, training, and technical support.
