Safety Urgency: Head-On Collision at Umrangso’s 25 Kilo S-Turning Raises Alarming Concerns
A tragic road accident unfolded this afternoon at the notorious 25 Kilo S-turn on the Lanka-Umrangso road in Dima Hasao district, where a Swift Dzire car (AS-01-BP-9605) collided head-on with a heavily loaded Dalmia Cement truck (AS-01-SC-6473). The Swift Dzire was en route from Umrangso towards Lanka when it was struck by the truck carrying a full load of cement coming from the opposite direction.
The collision caused severe front-end damage to the car, while the truck veered off the road and partially overturned. Eyewitnesses at the scene indicated that the truck driver may have lost control while navigating the sharp curve, which is notorious for accidents.
Initial reports have mentioned casualties and injuries, though official confirmation from police is still pending. Rescue teams and local volunteers responded quickly, rushing to the scene to assist the victims.
This accident has once again underscored the dangers present on the Lanka-Umrangso stretch, which is infamous for its sharp curves, steep gradients, and poor visibility. Residents and commuters have consistently called for improved safety measures, better road engineering, and stricter monitoring of heavy vehicles to prevent such incidents from recurring.
Authorities are expected to conduct an inquiry into the accident’s cause, assessing whether negligence, overloading, or speeding contributed to the tragic event.
