Indian Couple’s Dream Trip Turns Nightmarish: Wife Suffers Jaw Injury in Switzerland Assault, Hotel Claims ‘Self-Defense’
Nikita and Karan, an Indian-origin couple residing in Canada, recently described a harrowing experience during their vacation in Switzerland, where they allege they were attacked at Seehotel Schwert. This hotel, which boasts a 3.8-star rating on Google, charges between ₹28,000 to ₹42,000 for a night’s stay. The incident, they claim, escalated after they requested fans due to a lack of air conditioning in their room.
In an interview with Hindustan Times, Nikita recounted the ordeal, stating that she suffered significant injuries, including jaw damage and dental issues, as well as post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and anxiety. Their troubles began when they were initially provided with a small fan but later had to rent one from outside. To their dismay, hotel staff later retrieved the hotel’s fan without prior notice. Due to a language barrier-hotel staff used Google Translate-the couple faced difficulties in communication.
Tensions escalated when a staff member allegedly returned the fan but became confrontational, reportedly calling them “stupid.” The couple noted that the staff’s treatment towards them contrasted sharply with how they treated other guests who were German-speaking and white. Nikita expressed concerns, emphasizing that the encounter felt racially charged.
On the day of their scheduled checkout, Nikita claims she encountered the same staff member while gathering fruits for breakfast. She alleges he reacted aggressively, ceasing his tirade only when Karan joined her. After seeking assistance from another staff member, who dismissed their concerns, the situation worsened when the staff member confronted Karan aggressively.
In a shocking turn, when Nikita began recording the confrontation, the employee allegedly attempted to snatch her phone before launching an attack. Nikita described how the assault progressed, with the perpetrator kicking and punching both of them, even throwing a heavy ceramic mug that struck her in the face. She reported losing one tooth and sustaining damage to eleven others, alongside cuts and bruises. Medical professionals later informed her that full function of her jaw might never be restored.
Karan described the dire aftermath, stating that Nikita was bleeding heavily from her injuries. They managed to escape the hotel with assistance from elderly women nearby, subsequently seeking medical attention and reporting the incident to the local authorities.
The management of Seehotel Schwert has vehemently disputed the couple’s narrative, accusing them of displaying rude behavior throughout their stay and demanding freebies. In an email response to Hindustan Times, hotel owners claimed to have lent the couple a personal fan but insisted that they misbehaved, insisting it was their right due to their payment.
The hotel management further contended that “all facts submitted to the Swiss police would speak for themselves,” expressing a need to safeguard their staff and reputation. They also alleged that the couple physically assaulted a 60-year-old employee, leading to injuries on both sides during what was described as a self-defensive reaction.
As this unsettling story unfolds, numerous questions surrounding the incident’s circumstances remain, reflecting the complexities of cultural interactions and safety expectations in foreign environments.
