Don’t Miss the Spectacular ‘Blood Moon’ Lunar Eclipse 2025 in India: Essential Times, Precautions, and More!
A total lunar eclipse is set to captivate skywatchers on Sunday, September 7, 2025. This celestial event, which occurs only during a full moon, sees the Earth aligning directly between the Sun and the Moon, casting the planet’s shadow on the lunar surface. This interaction often diminishes the Moon’s brightness and imparts a striking reddish hue, commonly known as the “Blood Moon.”
According to Priest Mahendra Nath, the lunar eclipse will begin at 9:57 PM and conclude at 1:26 AM. “The lunar eclipse will touch down at 9:57 PM and will be liberated by 1:26 AM,” he explained. He noted that a preparatory period, or “Sutak,” will commence at 12:57 PM on the same day. The priest has advised that while food consumption should be avoided during this time, exceptions can be made for the elderly, sick, and pregnant women.
Astrologically, the eclipse will occur under the sign of Aquarius, prompting Priest Mahendra Nath to recommend caution for those born under this zodiac. He suggested that they chant the Mahamrityunjaya Mantra to mitigate potential health effects. “Those born in Aquarius should be cautious and chant the Mahamrityunjaya Mantra as much as possible to reduce adverse health effects,” he noted. Interestingly, he emphasized that this eclipse may yield favorable outcomes for individuals with the zodiac signs of Aries, Scorpio, and Sagittarius. “The auspicious results of this eclipse will be beneficial for Aries, Scorpio, and Sagittarius, while the others may experience negative effects,” he added.
O.P. Gupta, a Senior Planetarium Engineer at Nehru Planetarium, confirmed that the lunar eclipse will last for approximately 48 minutes. He indicated the timings for observers in Delhi: the penumbral phase will kick off at 8:58 PM, followed by the partial eclipse starting at 9:57 PM. The peak of the event is slated for around 11:48 PM, with a total duration exceeding 48 minutes.
This event marks the second lunar eclipse of 2025, following the first one that occurred in March. Skywatchers and astrology enthusiasts alike can look forward to this remarkable spectacle, which is both scientifically significant and rich in cultural lore.
As the date approaches, enthusiasts are encouraged to prepare for an unforgettable evening beneath the stars, making the most of this rare opportunity to witness a phenomenon that has fascinated humanity for centuries.
