Triumphant Victory: Kartik Aaryan’s ‘Chandu Champion’ and Vikrant Massey’s ’12th Fail’ Shine Bright at Indian Film Festival of Melbourne – Northeast News
GUWAHATI: The 2024 edition of the Indian Film Festival of Melbourne celebrated the best in Indian cinema and OTT platforms at the esteemed Palais Theatre. The event witnessed notable achievements, with Kartik Aaryan and Vikrant Massey securing the top honors.
Aaryan won the Best Actor award for his compelling portrayal of India’s first Paralympic gold medalist, Murlikant Petkar, in the triumphant sports drama “Chandu Champion.” Massey’s exceptional performance as IPS officer Manoj Kumar Sharma in “12th Fail” earned him the Best Performance of the Year accolade. “12th Fail,” directed by Vidhu Vinod Chopra, also took home the Best Film award.
Filmmaker Kabir Khan shared the Best Director award for his film with Nithilan Swaminathan, recognized for his directorial prowess in the Tamil action-thriller “Maharaja” starring Vijay Sethupathi. The Best Actress award was bestowed upon Parvathy Thiruvothu for her compelling role in the Malayalam-language drama “Ullozhukku.”
In the critics’ choice segment, Kiran Rao’s “Laapataa Ladies” received the Best Film award for its innovative narrative and compelling storytelling. Dominic Sangma was awarded Best Director for “Rimdogittanga.”
Additionally, Imtiaz Ali’s film “Amar Singh Chamkila,” which explores the life of the slain Punjabi musician with Diljit Dosanjh in the titular role and Parineeti Chopra as his second wife Amarjot, was named Breakout Film of the Year. Rajkumar Hirani’s comedy-drama “Dunki,” featuring superstar Shah Rukh Khan, was honored with the Equality in Cinema award for its progressive narrative.
This celebration of cinematic excellence highlights the diversity and talent within Indian cinema, showcasing outstanding achievements across a range of genres and storytelling platforms.
