Relief in Sight: Rain in Delhi Eases while Mizoram and Tripura Brace for Heavy Downpour, Warns IMD Expert
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has announced a reduction in rainfall for Delhi starting today, while northeastern states Mizoram and Tripura may experience heavy rains due to a low-pressure area over the Bay of Bengal. Soma Sen, an IMD scientist, informed ANI that this system will move northwest, bringing rain to Bengal and Jharkhand, with potential for very heavy downpours. Rainfall in the plains is expected to increase from Monday, but will decrease in Delhi after light showers today and tomorrow, ceasing thereafter before resuming lightly.
In Kerala, an orange alert has been issued for heavy rain and strong winds over the next five days. Pathanamthitta, Kottayam, Idukki, and Ernakulam districts received the alert on Saturday, with additional alerts for Kottayam, Idukki, Kozhikode, Pathanamthitta, and Ernakulam on Sunday and Monday. The alert indicates very heavy rainfall ranging from 11 cm to 20 cm, with intermittent isolated rains already affecting parts, causing water levels in rivers like Manimala and Pamba to rise.
Himachal Pradesh is likely to see light to moderate rain, accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning in areas such as Una, Hamirpur, Bilaspur, Solan, Mandi, Shimla, and Kullu tonight. The IMD warns of possible flash floods, slippery roads, low visibility, and partial damage to structures in vulnerable areas. Additional light to moderate rainfall is predicted for Kangra, Chamba, Kinnaur, Lahul, and Spiti districts. With recent heavy rains, a yellow alert has been issued for 10 of the state’s 12 districts, effective until August 20.
These weather updates highlight varying conditions across different regions, underscoring the need for preparedness and caution in affected areas.
