Naga People’s Front Calls for CM Rio’s Return to Secure Political Solution
The Central Executive Council (CEC) of the Naga People’s Front (NPF) convened a significant meeting today at the party’s central office in Kohima, resulting in a unanimous adoption of a six-point resolution. Following the meeting, NPF Secretary General Achumbemo Kikon addressed the media, reaffirming a previous resolution from February 12, 2025, which called for all former party members to return to the NPF for the greater good of both the party and the Naga people.
A central aspect of the meeting was a formal appeal to Nagaland Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio, urging him to rejoin the NPF and resume its leadership. Kikon highlighted Rio’s long-standing connection with the party, recalling that he began his political career in 1974 as the Youth President of Kohima Division and later became Youth Wing President during the UDF era. The NPF believes that Rio’s return would convey a positive message to the public and fortify the regional cause.
The CEC also called on sitting and former MLAs and MPs, particularly those with regional interests, to consider rejoining the NPF for the benefit of younger generations. In addition, it encouraged like-minded regional parties to unite under the NPF umbrella to create a stronger coalition for advancing regional interests and protecting the rights of the Naga people.
The CEC commended the current NPF president for being open to new organizational arrangements, including those appealing to former members like Rio. They resolved to establish a Central Election Board if necessary, authorizing the president to form the board and issue notifications as outlined in the party constitution.
Furthermore, the council reiterated its commitment to seeking an early, honorable, and inclusive resolution to the longstanding Naga Political Issue, urging all Naga National Workers to reconcile for the benefit of all Naga people. To conclude the meeting, the NPF invoked divine blessings through mass prayers for the Naga community while commemorating the first Indo-Naga ceasefire.
