IIT Madras Secures Top NIRF Ranking for Seventh Consecutive Year!
The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Madras has once again been recognized as India’s premier higher education institution, maintaining its top position in the Ministry of Education’s National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) for the seventh consecutive year. The rankings were unveiled on Thursday by Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan.
Following IIT Madras in the overall category is the Indian Institute of Science (IISc) Bengaluru, which has also been named the highest-ranked university in the country. Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) secured the second position among universities, while Manipal Academy of Higher Education and Jamia Millia Islamia occupied the third and fourth spots, respectively.
In the colleges category, Hindu College of Delhi University earned the top rank, with Miranda House slipping to second place. Hans Raj College, Kirori Mal College, and St Stephen’s College rounded out the top five.
For research institutions, IISc Bengaluru continues to lead, followed closely by IIT Madras. In the realm of open universities, the Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) retained its dominance, with Karnataka State Open University in Mysuru securing the second position.
The NIRF rankings, established in 2015, assess institutions based on several criteria, including teaching quality, research output, graduation rates, and outreach efforts. This year’s results emphasize the continued excellence of both IIT Madras and IISc Bengaluru in defining the landscape of higher education in India.
