Urgent: Guv Bhalla Addresses Fuel Crisis as Massive Convoy Leaves Jiribam
Imphal, Aug 31: Manipur Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla has conducted a review of the dwindling fuel and LPG supplies in the state following recent landslides that have affected National Highways 2 and 37, which are critical for connectivity. The review meeting took place on Friday.
To address the shortage and ensure a steady supply of fuel for both domestic and commercial purposes, it was decided that the State Consumers Affairs, Food, and Public Distribution (CAF&PD) Department, in collaboration with the State police and Indian Oil Corporation Limited, will organize a special convoy to transport essential fuels, including petrol, diesel, aviation turbine fuel, and LPG. This information was shared in a press release by CAF&PD Secretary N Kheda Varta Singh.
The convoy departed from Jiribam in the early hours of Saturday and includes 158 tankers loaded with petrol and diesel, five trucks carrying aviation turbine fuel, and 29 trucks transporting LPG. These vehicles are anticipated to arrive in Imphal within two to three days, as stated in the release.
The Manipur government has assured residents that all measures are being taken to guarantee an adequate supply of fuel for both domestic and commercial needs.
Earlier in August, Churachandpur district administration, in coordination with the State Government and the Indian Air Force, successfully airdropped essential supplies to remote villages affected by landslides in the Henglep subdivision. Reports indicate that around 18 villages in this area have remained isolated since July due to continuous rainfall causing multiple landslides along the Churachandpur-Tipaimukh Road section of National Highway 2.
In another development, Governor Bhalla and his wife, Jyoti Bhalla, visited Andro town in the Imphal East District on Saturday to engage with the local community and appreciate the region’s rich cultural heritage. During their visit, they observed the traditional process of rice wine production and explored a variety of indigenous pottery products at the Common Facilitation Centre for Pottery and Terracotta Crafts, showcasing Andro’s exceptional craftsmanship.
