
Mizoram Assembly Monsoon Session Adjourned: What’s Next for Lawmakers?
The two-day monsoon session of the Mizoram Assembly wrapped up on Thursday, with Speaker Lalbiakzama announcing its adjournment sine die. During this session, four significant bills were passed, notably the Mizoram Prohibition of Beggary Bill, 2025, and the Mizoram Local Bodies Ombudsman Bill, 2025.
The Assembly fielded an impressive total of 350 starred and 105 unstarred questions, with 342 starred and 97 unstarred questions accepted for discussion. Furthermore, nineteen committee reports were submitted, an official resolution concerning the Environment Act was adopted, and thirteen additional papers were presented during the proceedings.
In a somber note, the House paid tribute to former Rajya Sabha member Ronald Sapa Tlau and Mizo National Front legislator Lalrintluanga Sailo. Speaker Lalbiakzama took the opportunity to commend the members for their decorum and called on them to continue fostering a collaborative atmosphere within the House.
